Beatburger Bites Back.

The first I heard about this fringe show was a tweet from @Supermarket_AV inviting Rubina and I to check out a gig at the Tivoli on a Saturday night. Curiosity piqued by the description of “a dynamic duo who drop jaws with original beats and vision in hybrid live DJ/VJ sets” I set aside some time to check it out, and am I glad I did.

After arriving a little early at the Hotel Tivoli and being subjected to late 90s top 40 tunes, we were ushered into the back room of the pub and shown three screens. With a glass of wine in hand I settled down to quite honestly what is a feast for the ears and the eyes. Three DJs, Phaselockloop, Spielkinder and Supermarket did their thing, electronic beats that you can’t help but move to, accompanied by some utterly amazing live mixed visuals. Check out just how cool this is in the clip below.

Now I am no means a connoisseur of electronic music, but I can tell the good from the bad, and Beatburger is good. Really good, these guys are artists, expanding how you listen and respond to different sounds. Combined with the visuals it really is an amazing sensory experience. This is not the type of electronic music you’d hear at a club, it’s the stuff you wish to hear at clubs. Highly engaging, with sounds and beats you can’t help but move to and visuals that captivate.

I had a pretty wicked time at this fringe show. Not to mention it managed to keep me out way past my good intentions for an earlyish night before a wedding the next day. I found Beatburger to be a very tasty fringe treat and one I want to taste again.

The next show is 11pm March 5 once again at the Hotel Tivoli. This show features Supermarket with two new acts, Tomás Ford and d33p h33t. Tickets $15, purchase at the door or via FringeTix
