Laurentina’s Oddyssey

When I read the The Adelaide Fringe Festival’s synopsis of Laurentina’s Oddyssey, I knew that this was one theatre performance that I had to see.

On Laurentina’s 30th birthday, she realises that she has nothing to show for her life. Unlike her long-lost friend – now a successful singer and a powerful witch.
Laurentina must go on a journey. Get ready to join her — and prepare to see the world in a whole new way!

Being a 30 something who suffers from the occasional existential crisis it was somewhat apt for me to attend this performance. I no longer felt alone! Here was someone presenting herself as a job-seeker, a meaning searcher and a boyfriend hunter.  Her story was my story. Her friends were getting married and having babies and she was unemployed, single and addicted to Farmville (a Facebook game) [ok, my life isn't that bad].

Laurentina’s heartfelt performance was a little like watching a choose your own adventure story as she used her audience as directors and acted using improvisation. I loved it! This has to have been the first time that I’ve made a new friend during a Fringe Performance. I love audience participation!
