The Editors
Welcome to Adelaide ArtBeat! It is a new online arts blog, edited by strong arts supporters, Rubina Carlson and Noriko Wynn. Rubina and Noriko, along with guest bloggers, will be kicking off this blog with shows on during the 2011 Adelaide Fringe season.
Rubina Carlson has written for a number of arts blogs previously, including Express Media’s Buzzcuts, Fringe Benefits and Kryztoff: RAW. Her favourite forms of performance art are cabaret, theatre, jazz and comedy. She also likes heading out to galleries, grabbing a bite to eat or bit to drink before a show and caffeinated long blacks.
Rubina’s Not-So-Secret-Secret: She’s got a very, very soft spot for versatile West End superstar, John Barrowman.
Noriko Wynn has not written for a number of arts blogs, but has attended a lot of arts events. Having spent her childhood in theatres, galleries and restaurants with her artist for a mother and a music/theatre/food/art/travel loving father she enjoys nearly anything as long as it’s not liquorice flavoured. Anything includes theatre, world music, blues and roots, indie pop, installation art, surrealism, expressionism, modern dance, classical dance and all the rest in between.

If you’re still looking for Adelaide Cabaret Fringe reviews, I’ve been a theatre audience member and an actor for a number of years and would love to get back to reviewing. I can send you samples of my writing, if you’re interested.
Cheers,
Hey Amie! Thanks for offering to come on board, I will be in touch via email directly.
Our motto here is, the more the merrier!
I would love one of your reviewers who enjoys abstract sketch comedy to get along to one of Gravity Boots show. I caught last Saturdays show at the Colonel Light and I believe they performed at last year’s Fringe as well. I have not seen anything as clever and hilarious since Monty Pyhton and I am a huge Python fan. They are Adelaide lads. Worth a look, they are brilliant
Thanks for the hot tip Leonie, we’ll see what we can do!

Good Morning,
Hailed as one of CNN’s top 12 must-see exhibitions, The Art of the
Brick is now coming to Adelaide opening on the 9th of April, 2012 at
the Adelaide Showground, Goyder Pavilion.
In a world-first, New York-based artist Nathan Sawaya uses LEGO®
bricks as the sole art medium for this critically acclaimed exhibition
which features primarily 3-dimensional sculptures and oversized
portraits.
LEGO has never before been synonymous with art but Sawaya’s brick
sculptures are highly technical showing his devotion to scale and
colour, a passion which converts the everyday toy into masterpieces.
As part of the exhibition a Play and Build area has been created where
children big and small can participate in great fun activities
tailored to different age groups and skill levels. The sessions run
for 45 minutes and must be pre-booked when purchasing your tickets at
$10.00 per participant session.
Ticket prices are as follows: Adults – $15.00, Children – $10.00,
Concession – $12.50, Family (4) – $45.00. My Ticketmaster presale
starts at midday on Monday 2 April 2012 and runs until 6pm on Tuesday
3 April 2012. General sale starts at 9am on Wednesday 4 April 2012.
Tickets can be purchased at http://www.ticketmaster.com.au/artofthebrick.
The exhibition runs daily from 9 April 2012 until 11 June 2012 (except
Anzac Day) at the Adelaide Showground, Goyder Pavilion, open 10am -
5pm.
After school holidays, from 23 April 2012 until 11 June 2012, groups
of 10 or more attending the exhibition on a weekday will pay an entry
fee of just $5 per person (regardless of age).
